Vincent Tavernier: Free Figures
18 February – 21 May 2023
Every three months, La Piscine presents a selection of paper-based works in two dedicated areas on the first-floor pool level: drawings, engravings, collages, photographs, watercolours, posters, prints, wash drawings… This spring, we present Vincent Tavernier.
“I don’t draw things, I cut round them”
Vincent Tavernier was born in Saint-Germain-en-Laye in 1978.
After studying model-making at the EDTA Sornas in Paris, Tavernier attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Versailles, where he focused on relief printing, attracted to this technique by his admiration for the Die Brücke movement and the art of Emil Nolde. After graduating, he joined the Vincennes-based studio of visual artist Damien Valero, where he enriched his practice by learning intaglio printing.
His works are snapshots of everyday life or scenes from unique worlds, created to suit his emotions or feelings. He has now expanded his approach to include painting and all areas of printmaking. Tavernier moved to Marseille in 2011. He lives, works and teaches there.
Curator: Sylvette Botella-Gaudichon
The design was made possible thanks to generous support from the paints distributed by Tollens.
