Odile Levigoureux: Fruits of the Earth
8 October 2022 – 8 January 2023
Odile Levigoureux enjoys using complex techniques to transform materials. After experimenting with various media, including stained glass, tapestry, felt, paper and artists’ books, her preferred area of exploration is now ceramics.
The Fruits of the Earth exhibition is an invitation to discover three aspects of a varied, exuberant and hypnotic art practice, dominated by the plant world, which demonstrates the artist’s taste for Baroque art.
It includes several Gardens of Delight, teeming with foliage, fruit, interlacing, winding stems and flowers, sometimes blooming in the mouths of fantastical animals… An imposing Still Life that pays tribute to the 17th century Dutch painters admired by the artist. The subject is a contemplation of food and everyday objects but, above all, it offers an opportunity to reflect on sculpture itself. Of her gilded altarpieceNun Komm der Heiden Heiland, Henri Raynal wrote “it is characterised by an upward movement: the monumental composition becomes a hymn. Nun Komm is a burning bush”
