Pat le Sza: A Piece of Nonsense
8 October 2022 – 8 January 2023
Every three months, La Piscine presents a selection of paper-based works in two dedicated areas on the first-floor pool level: drawings, engravings, collages, photographs, watercolours, posters, prints, wash drawings…
… An almost totally accurate bio … of Pat le Sza – a lisped pronunciation of Pat le Chat (Pat the Cat) – One life, one work.
Born on Friday the 13th of November 1970 in Sourys-sur-Yvette in the Aube region, Pat le Sza (a lisped pronunciation…) was a very early developer. At just two-and-a-half, he was already using his milk teeth to chew coloured pencils, given to him by his mother. She used to say that there was a plan for his life, which he presumed must refer to drawing and from then on, he barely put those pencils down. Before making his mark in the world of illustration, he attended vet school for a very short and unsuccessful period, hence his first pseudonym Pat de Chat (Cat Paw). Having a nickname is a relief, since his original Polish surname is impossible to spell correctly for anyone who is unable to write fluent Polish. “I still get it wrong” he confesses. “At least, if I stick to drawing, that solves the problem!” …a spelling-related vocation perhaps. Careers have been built on less! …
