Hugo Laruelle: The Water of the Wondrous Isles*
8 October 2022 – 8 January 2023
Hugo Laruelle (born in 1973) set up his studio in La Maison Verte (1893, architect A.G Dubois). A stone’s throw from the museum, this eclectic green house, whose facade is entirely covered in enamelled bricks and ornamentation (E. Muller, A. Laoust), inspires the artist when creating his photographic and painted portraits. The building seems to have a life of its own, it is tangible, an invitation to travel. Landscapes of flowers and forests also find inspiration in the fantasy lands of old paintings, gardens, wallpaper patterns, outdated curtains, idealised images from postcards, literature or the imaginary world that might just be hiding in the forest or garden.
